Corn

Somewhere in the outskirts of Mexico City, an argument erupts at a local farmers market between a rancher and a framer. The rancher is enraged at the recent increase in the price of corn saying, “How am I going to be able to afford all of this corn to meal my cattle when this price is so high. My crops are being demand much more by scientists who seem to be developing some kind of new fuel, so I had to raise my price” replied the farmer. In a small Kenyan village Agre Ranyondo attempts to support his family by planting and harvesting crops, times have been dry and production at all time lows. Corn is there main source of nutrition they count on all year long. Ranyondo and his family are not the only ones who are dependent on corn as their main source of nutrition in the world. In countries like Mexico corn is the basic and key ingredient they use to produce several of there foods. The access to corn is slowly slipping out of the grasp of these impoverish nations due to the ever increasing price of corn. The price of corn has recently taken off based on the increased demand for alternative sources of energy and the value of ethanol found in corn stock. Due to the increased research and production of ethanol-based bio-fuels the price of corn has made itself unavailable to third world countries and its inhabitants.
